The Texts
Scuba's library consists of public-domain works and other texts available for lawful reuse. These are books whose copyright has expired, or which have otherwise entered the public domain under the laws of their country of origin.
Because copyright terms differ by country, a work that is in the public domain in one jurisdiction may still be protected in another. Scuba makes reasonable efforts to restrict access to titles where this is known to be an issue, but cannot guarantee availability in every region.
Scuba provides the reading experience — the formatting, navigation, curation, and app. It does not provide ownership of the underlying texts, which remain in the public domain.
What Scuba Contributes
Each text in Scuba's library has been selected, reviewed, and prepared for the reading experience. This work includes:
- Typographical formatting and layout for mobile reading
- Curation and editorial selection of the library
- Structural preparation: chapters, sections, and navigation
- Some texts have been lightly prepared for readability, while preserving the underlying work.
Scuba's rights in its own contributions — the formatting, software, and editorial work — are separate from any rights in the underlying texts.
Regional Availability
Copyright law varies by country and changes over time. Some books in Scuba's library may not be available in all regions as a result. If a title is unavailable in your location, this is typically due to regional copyright status rather than a technical error.
